Items of Interest

  • October 2012 - Russ will be presenting at the Western Protective Relay Conference in Spokane the week of October 15th.  The paper is "Directional Comparison Blocking System Fundamentals" which he co-authored with Elmo Price and Miriam Sanders.
  • October 2012 - Russ will be teaching Transmission Line, Tansformer, and Capacitor bank protection in the Georgia Tech Power System Relaying short course October 22-25 in Atlanta.
  • August 2012 - Josh Perkins joints PPE as a Principal Consultant.  Josh brings over five years of protection and control design experience and PPE is very happy to have him on our team!
  • March 2012 - Russ and Meyer taught Basic Relaying Philosophy and Testing for TVA.

  • March 2012 - John Allen Bradley joins PPE as a Principal Consultant.  John spent the last decade in System Protection & Analysis at TVA in Chattanooga where he calculated setpoints for relays protecting generation and transmission assets.  PPE is very pleased that John Allen has decided to join our team!
  • March 2012 - Russ Patterson was nominated and accepted as a U.S. representative to CIGRE Working Group B5.47 – Network Protection Performance Audits.  The WG pertains to Wide Area Coordination studies covering vast numbers of relays studied in aggregate using tools such as CAPE.  More information can be found at http://www.cigre-b5.org/.
  • October 27, 2011 - PPE was pleased to host a meeting with Dr. Chul-Hwan Kim from Sungkyunkwan University in Seoul Korea, Mr. Jong-Hyuk Lee assistant director at Korea Power eXchange, and protection engineers from the Tennessee Valley Authority.  The core discussion centered around automatic reclosing practices at the transmission level as Dr. Kim and Mr. Lee are investigating changes to the reclosing practices in the country.

          The meeting was very productive and beneficial. 

  • August 2011 - Charlie Sufana joins PPE as a Principal Consultant.  Charlie brings a wealth of experience with him including decades at Commonwealth Edison in Chicago.  Charlie is a member of the IEEE PSRC and has taught many classes on power system protection and analysis.  PPE is very happy to have Charlie on our team!
  • Meyer Kao chairing IEEE PSRC Line Protection working group D3 -  "Considerations for Choice of Polarizing Methods for Transmission Line Directional Ground Elements."  More information at http://pes-psrc.org
